Filipinos are crazy when it comes to beauty pageants. Beauty pageants are very much embedded in the Philippines society. They fill the calendar all year around from small time local competitions to more colorful carnival competitions. I remember what Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach said about this thing. There are 3B's in the Philippines, Boxing, Basketball and Beauty Pageants.
As per as I researched about this, I came to know about that this obsession for pageants came with the American Colonization during 1940's. No one had imagined that these carnivals will gonna result to such an impact on Filipino culture and, a true evidence was seen on finals night during the 65th Miss Universe held at Mall of Asia, Pasay, Metro Manila. When Steve Harvey announced the name "Philippines", it was quite obvious to have a great enthusiasm among pinoys, after all, it was happening in their nation. But, as Asian's have an habit to exhibit their goods at extremism, Steve was also wondering how to make the crowd under control, so that he can ask to maxine. Like always, Maria Mika Maxine Medina was looking damn gorgeous.
She showed that ecstatic, classy attitude but still kept feel at ground. Which really made everyone's heart wrench out. One thing that I have seen she was one of the prettiest contestant in the Philippines has ever sent to Miss Universe and to any beauty pageant.
But for this title of Miss Universe, she must have Beauty than can attract more people plus a vivacious personality that must have an appealing coherent public speaking too. Although, Maxine Medina have a charming princess personality, but as Leila Lopez and Margie Moran said that she lacked confidence while giving answer, which lead her to decimate her journey to crown, as 3rd runner-up for the year. Also, she was the first contestant to be placed on the spotlight during the question and answer round may have "added to the stress and pressure" on Medina, who was often criticized for her allegedly poor English and communication skills. Nevertheless, she really give her best. Maria Mika Maxine Medina still our Miss Universe.
